Diabetes in Togo: Banfantini Lare proposes new recommendations for the prevention and screening of neuropathies

Banfantini Lare, a researcher at the Institute for Research and Development, presented in 2024 recommendations to improve the prevention and screening of diabetes-related neuropathies in Togo. In 2019, the global incidence of diabetes reached 22.9 million, highlighting the urgency for targeted action in this region.

Banfantini Lare's thesis addresses the growing issue of diabetes and its peripheral neuropathies in Togo, where less than 50% of diabetics are aware of their condition. This situation complicates access to appropriate treatments and highlights the need for in-depth research to better understand the extent of this epidemic.

The study used Sudoscan, an innovative device, to assess sudomotor function in diabetic patients. The results show that this technology could improve early screening of neuropathies, a common but often overlooked complication, thereby contributing to better patient management.

Banfantini Lare's recommendations aim to strengthen screening and awareness strategies for diabetes in Togo. Policymakers are encouraged to integrate technologies like Sudoscan into medical practices to improve the prevention and treatment of peripheral neuropathies.

« « Less than 50% of diabetic individuals in Togo are aware of their condition, which complicates the implementation of effective prevention strategies, » says Banfantini Lare. »

« « The integration of new technologies in health in Togo is essential to address the rise of chronic diseases and improve patient outcomes, » emphasizes the Lektaris team. »
