How we turn academic research into decision intelligence
Our editorial approach
Lektaris produces original editorial syntheses for economic, institutional, and political decision-makers. Our process is comparable to that of a specialized economic journalist: we read, select, analyze, and reformulate academic research in an original way, without reproducing that work.
Every executive brief is a new work that draws on research as a source of information, in the same way a press article draws on facts to produce an original analysis.
Human-AI Synergy: Our 13 Sentinels
To process thousands of sources every day with thoroughness and precision, our analysts are supported by a technological network of 13 specialized AI agents(our "Sentinels").
These agents are designed to scan databases, extract raw material, translate and pre-structure information with unmatched computing power. They act as super research assistants, each an expert in its domain (climate data, UEMOA geopolitics, etc.).
Human Guarantee: While collection is accelerated by artificial intelligence, strategic analysis, critical distance, and final validation (fact-checking) remain strictly performed by our human experts. No report is published without the approval of a human Publication Director, the sole guarantor of our ethics and your trust.
Our academic sources
Open-access platforms used
- HAL open science (hal.science) — A French multidisciplinary open archive hosting research articles, conference papers, and doctoral theses.
- theses.hal.science (theses.hal.science) — National portal of French and Francophone doctoral theses, including a large corpus on West Africa and the Republic of Benin.
- OAPEN (oapen.org) — Online library of open-access academic monographs.
Source selection criteria
We select an academic work based on the following criteria:
- Geographic relevance: Benin, West Africa, or applicable regional comparisons;
- Thematic relevance: alignment with one of the 4 covered domains;
- Academic quality: peer-reviewed work, defended theses, institutional publications;
- Recency: priority given to work from the last 10 years, except for documented historical interest;
- Legal availability: open-access content or content under a compatible license.
Legal framework of our activity
Key principle: Lektaris does not reproduce academic theses and research — it cites and synthesizes them. This distinction is fundamental under intellectual property law.
Right of citation (France)
Article L122-5 3°b of the French Intellectual Property Code (CPI) authorizes, without the author's permission and without compensation, "analyses and short quotations justified by the critical, polemical, educational, scientific, or informational nature of the work in which they are incorporated."
Our briefs make use of this right by quoting short passages for illustrative and informational purposes, with systematic attribution of the author and source.
Right of citation (Benin)
Article 24, first paragraph, of Law No. 2004-05 of January 14, 2004on copyright protection in the Republic of Benin provides for a similar exception: "quotations taken from a work lawfully made available to the public are lawful, provided they conform to fair practice and are justified by the purpose to be achieved, including quotations from newspaper articles and periodicals in the form of press reviews."
Revised Bangui Agreement (OAPI)
As a member of OAPI, Benin is subject to the revised Bangui Agreement of February 24, 1999, whose Annex VII (copyright), Article 16, provides for exceptions analogous to international conventions (Berne Convention, WIPO Copyright Treaty).

Originality of our productions
Each Lektaris brief is the result of original intellectual work that includes:
- Selection and prioritization of relevant work;
- Understanding and interpretation of research findings;
- Reformulation in a decision-oriented register (non-academic);
- Economic, institutional, or sector contextualization;
- Lektaris's own editorial structuring.
This value chain constitutes an original work distinct from the sources, protected by copyright for the benefit of Lektaris by ATLAS.
Our attribution policy
Every brief systematically indicates:
- The author(s) of the cited work (first name, last name, institution);
- The full title of the thesis or article;
- The year of defense or publication;
- The deposit platform and digital identifier (DOI or HAL link).
Withdrawal policy — Authors' rights
Lektaris respects the moral rights of academic authors. If you are the author of a work cited on our platform and wish to:
- Have your work no longer cited or summarized in our productions;
- Correct information concerning you;
- Obtain a right of reply or a factual correction;
We invite you to contact us at contact@lektaris.com. We will process your request within 15 business days.
Editorial independence
Lektaris maintains no financial relationship with the authors of cited work. Source selection is carried out exclusively on the basis of quality and relevance criteria, without sponsorship or paid partnership with academic institutions or authors.
