Mahamadou Traore unveils an innovative approach to managing locust invasions in Benin

Research conducted by Mahamadou Traore at the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany proposes a novel method to anticipate and control the invasions of desert locusts in Benin, by integrating biophysical systems with cellular modeling. Desert locusts represent a major threat to agriculture in Benin, a vital sector for food security. Mahamadou Traore's research, in collaboration with the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany and the University of Saint-Louis, aims to understand this dynamic by using advanced technologies to monitor environmental conditions and locust behavior.

By integrating wireless sensor networks, this study allows for the collection of real-time data on environmental parameters influencing locust reproduction. For example, an increase in temperature and adequate humidity promote their reproduction, leading to population explosions that threaten crops.
