Development of a sizing tool to mitigate air shock waves by Aymerick Reinders

Aymerick Reinders, from the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany, has developed an innovative sizing tool to mitigate air shock waves, aiming to reduce damage caused by explosions. This advancement, validated in 2025, addresses an urgent need in the field of fluid mechanics in Benin and beyond.

Aymerick Reinders' research focuses on creating a liquid foam biphasic barrier to mitigate shock waves generated by explosions. These waves, often unpredictable, can cause massive destruction and loss of life. The lack of reliable predictive tools has previously made it difficult to manage these critical situations, highlighting the importance of this research.

The developed tool allows for the control of key variables such as bubble size and the shape of the incident wave, thus providing a better understanding of the interactions between waves and foam. Through a systematic experimental campaign, this methodological approach aims to establish a robust database to optimize the sizing of barriers.

The implications of this research are significant for decision-makers and engineers, who can now rely on more reliable tools for infrastructure protection. The commercialization of this technology could also meet a growing demand in the shock wave protection market, offering potential return on investment.
