Hamza Issa unlocks the scientific barrier on anisotropic diffusion of colloidal suspensions for industry

Hamza Issa, a researcher at the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany, has demonstrated that anisotropic diffusion in colloidal suspensions can significantly reduce biofouling, a costly phenomenon for the marine industry. His thesis, defended in 2023, proposes models and simulations that pave the way for innovative solutions to optimize industrial processes in Benin and beyond.

Research on colloidal suspensions, particularly those with anisometric particles, is crucial for various industrial sectors. Hamza Issa studied anisotropic translational diffusion at IRDL, revealing complex mechanisms that influence particle behavior in fluids. This study aims to understand how particle concentration and orientation affect their dynamics, with implications for controlling biofouling.

Issa developed kinetic models and numerical simulations, showing similar concentration profiles for different strains of bacteria in 100µm high channels. These results highlight the importance of understanding interactions between active and passive particles, allowing for potential solutions to reduce biofouling in sectors such as marine.

The implications of this research are significant for decision-makers and industry players. By applying discoveries on anisotropic diffusion, it is possible to improve industrial processes and reduce costs associated with biofouling. Companies must position themselves quickly to take advantage of these innovations and meet the growing demand in the antifouling solutions market.

« « My research shows that anisotropic diffusion can transform our approach to biofouling, with direct implications for the marine industry. » »

« « Hamza Issa's work provides valuable access to knowledge that can turn industrial challenges into strategic opportunities. » »
