Optimization of 3D Printing of Concrete: A Significant Advancement for Construction in Benin

Mamadou Younoussa Barry, a researcher at the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany, has developed a predictive model that optimizes 3D printing of concrete, thus ensuring the quality and durability of constructions in Benin. This thesis, validated by the ABES/STAR network, addresses crucial challenges in the construction sector by integrating real-time monitoring methods.

3D printing of concrete represents a major advancement in the construction sector, allowing for reduced costs and timelines while promoting innovative architectural designs. However, the variability of the rheological properties of cementitious materials poses a challenge to ensuring the quality and durability of structures. Mamadou Younoussa Barry's research aims to establish a link between printing parameters and the mechanical properties of concrete.

Preliminary results show that environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature, significantly influence the mechanical performance of printed concrete. For example, high humidity can slow down the setting of concrete, impacting its final strength. This research helps identify solutions to mitigate these effects and improve the quality of constructions.

The implications of this research are strategic for decision-makers and stakeholders in the sector. The optimization of 3D printing of concrete could offer significant gains in quality and durability. It is recommended to invest in monitoring and quality control technologies to ensure the reliability of materials and meet the challenges of the rapidly growing market.

« « The results of my research show that humidity and temperature can influence the final strength of printed concrete, highlighting the importance of real-time monitoring, » says Mamadou Younoussa Barry. »

« « Access to research like that of Mamadou Younoussa Barry is essential for decision-makers wishing to innovate in the construction sector in Benin, » states the Lektaris team. »
