Dorra Louati from Gaston Berger University presents an advanced ecological modeling for biodiversity in Benin

Dorra Louati, a researcher at Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, has developed a model coupling metabolic and ecological levels, validated by international co-supervision, which provides advanced tools for natural resource management in Benin. This research, supported by the UMMISCO laboratory, was funded in 2017 and is freely accessible.

Dorra Louati's research addresses the coupling of metabolic and ecological levels in biological systems, a crucial issue in the face of current environmental challenges. By integrating formal models, this study aims to better understand the interactions between organisms and their environment, raising questions about the survival and evolution of species in a changing world.

Using the DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism, Louati developed multi-agent models that link the internal dynamics of organisms to their external interactions. For example, the feeding decisions of fish, influenced by their metabolism, can impact the ecosystem, thus illustrating the importance of these interactions for ecological modeling.

This research has strategic implications for natural resource management, offering advanced modeling tools for decision-makers. Investors can take advantage of this opportunity in a growing market, but must also consider the risks associated with dependence on public funding and ongoing scientific validation.

« « The decisions made by an individual, influenced by their metabolism, can have repercussions on the ecosystem as a whole, » says Dorra Louati. »

« « This research opens interesting perspectives for decision-makers regarding sustainable natural resource management, » emphasizes the Lektaris team. »
