Advanced Modeling of Malaria in Benin: An Approach Integrating Climate Factors

The thesis of Justin-Hervé Noubissi, conducted at Gaston Berger University of Saint-Louis, proposes an advanced modeling of malaria in Benin, integrating climate factors. This research, validated by ABES/STAR, breaks the barrier of the lack of synergy between disciplines, thus allowing for a better understanding of malaria transmission in a context where this disease remains a major cause of mortality.

The eradication of malaria in Benin is hindered by often incomplete research models, due to a lack of collaboration between computer scientists, epidemiologists, and mathematicians. Justin-Hervé Noubissi emphasizes the importance of integrating environmental and climate factors, often overlooked, to better understand the transmission dynamics of this disease in a context where it remains a public health concern.

Noubissi proposes a modeling that takes into account variations in temperature and humidity, influencing the reproduction of vector mosquitoes and the life cycle of the Plasmodium parasite. This approach, by integrating climate data, offers a more realistic view of malaria transmission, thus addressing the gaps of traditional models and improving the effectiveness of interventions.

The results of this research pave the way for more effective malaria control strategies, by integrating climate models into public health interventions.
