Lilian Rabillard optimizes hydrogen production with an innovative electrolyzer at IRDL

Lilian Rabillard, a researcher at the National Polytechnic Institute of Brittany, has developed a hydrodynamic alkaline electrolyzer that reduces the energy ratio needed to produce hydrogen, currently 4 kWh for 1 kWh of hydrogen. This innovation, supported by the ABES/STAR network, could transform the renewable energy sector in Benin and beyond.

Hydrogen production, often considered the energy of tomorrow, faces efficiency challenges. Lilian Rabillard's thesis addresses this scientific lock by developing a hydrodynamic alkaline electrolyzer. This device aims to improve the conversion of electrical energy into hydrogen, a key issue for the energy transition and the competitiveness of renewable energies.

By setting up a test bench, Rabillard modeled hydrogen production by integrating parameters such as concentration, flow rate, and voltage. Preliminary results show that it is possible to optimize these factors to improve the efficiency of electrolyzers, thereby reducing the energy ratio needed to produce hydrogen.

This research opens strategic perspectives for investors in the renewable energy sector. Optimizing hydrogen production could lower costs and make this energy source more competitive, while meeting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

« « Thanks to our electrolyzer, we have identified ways to optimize hydrogen production, which could reduce the energy ratio from 4 kWh to more competitive levels, » says Lilian Rabillard. »

« « Innovation in hydrogen production is essential for decision-makers. Accessing this knowledge can transform the energy landscape in West Africa, » emphasizes the Lektaris team. »
