Moudachirou Ibikounle's research analyzes the epidemiology and host-parasite interactions of these diseases, confirming the presence of two species of human schistosomes, S. haematobium and S. mansoni, with alarming prevalence rates.
The results show that S. haematobium has a prevalence of 85%, while S. mansoni reaches 30%. Snail vectors, such as Bulinus forskalii and Bulinus globosus, are identified as key to transmission. The study also reveals variable compatibility of S. haematobium populations with different Bulinus groups, opening the way to targeted control strategies.
