A major breakthrough in the development of antiparasitic therapies with the discovery of the TgSORT receptor

The thesis of Houevo Ariane Honfozo, carried out at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission and the University of Abomey-Calavi, identified the TgSORT receptor as a promising target for new antiparasitic therapies. Research on protozoan parasites, such as Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium falciparum, is crucial for public health. To study TgSORT, a method for expressing the N-terminal domain was established in the yeast Pichia pastoris. Cryo-electron microscopy revealed a toric structure for N-SORT, confirmed by advanced algorithms. These results pave the way for a better understanding of parasite invasion mechanisms and the development of new therapeutic strategies.
