The autonomous port of Lomé, with its modernized infrastructure, has become a key player on the West African coast. This transformation, which began in the 2000s, has allowed the port to accommodate mega container ships, resulting in a significant increase in traffic. Indeed, the port of Lomé has seen its container volume processed rise from a few hundred thousand to several million per year, reflecting its growing role in regional maritime trade. However, this dynamic is accompanied by major challenges for the city of Lomé, notably rapid population growth that tests urbanization and planning capacities.
Amevor Komlan Agbemadon's thesis highlights the complex relationships between the port and the city, emphasizing the importance of strategic urban planning. Port infrastructures, although modernized, require effective management to meet the increasing demands of maritime traffic.
